Architectural jewels of outstanding universal value, recognised by all of humanity
Inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List is the highest international distinction a site can receive. It recognises an outstanding universal value — architectural, historical or cultural — that transcends national borders. In France, several château ensembles have received this distinction, notably the Loire Valley with its Renaissance châteaux.
These sites are subject to enhanced protection and rigorous management to pass them on to future generations in their integrity. Visiting a UNESCO-listed château means sharing a heritage that belongs to all of humanity.
